“Blue Suit Red Tie” by J.B. Raines appeared in Dark Moon Digest 20.
1. Talk about how you came up with the idea for the story that appeared in DMD 20.
I was living in the crappy townhome that butted up against an empty field. Separating the field and my actual yard was this, for lack of a better word, scrub. Stunted trees, overgrown bushes, fallen leaves. Basically a breeding ground for creepy crawlies. Over coffee one morning, I thought it would be a good place to dump a body, and it just took off from there.
2. What is your favorite book?
Murakami’s Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World
3. Do you get a lot of outside help with your writing or do you prefer to work on it alone?
As an MFA candidate, I’m never short on peers to bounce my work off of. I’ll sometimes ask for an extra pair of eyes when I’m on my second draft, but that’s about it. As King says, “Write with the door closed, rewrite with the door open.”
4. What do you like to do when you are not writing?
Like all writers, I spend a lot of free time reading. And, like all parents, I spend a lot of free time parenting. I guess I could just say I read and parent.
I’m not cool enough to have any links. (he is, he just hasn’t gotten there yet!)
